How Follicular Unit Hair Transplants Work Once you have decided to proceed with the procedure, we will use a special high-powered surgical microscope to transplant units of one to three follicles from the donor area to a thinning area. These transplanted, healthy follicles continue to grow hair naturally. This is your hair. There is no threat of rejection as there would be with foreign material implanted into your body. Even though your genetic code may have pushed you toward premature baldness, you will age with full, think head of hair. After the procedure, the transplanted hair will retain its original traits; color, texture, growth rate, amount of curl. The newly transplanted follicles are maintained by your normal circulation and begin to grow again naturally. Years ago, and possibly now at some less reputable establishments, transplants of 6 -20 (or more) follicles were transplanted (commonly known as "plugs") and gave the appearance of bad doll hair. Dr. Marko only uses Follicular Unit transplants of 1-3 follicles (after removing excess fatty tissue), which allows the hairs to be placed closer together giving a much more natural hair line. |
